An Accident in Typhoon

A raging wind swept through Hong Kong. The TV broadcast announced a Red Rainstorm Warning and a Typhoon Number Eight signal. Every glass door on the streets has an 'X' formed by tape. Trees were slanting in the wind and people were fleeing home. Buses and trains looked like sardine cans which were carrying 'homesick' people. Amy and Tommy were one of them. They are rushing home because their sons, Alan and William, aged 14 and 11, were supposed to waiting for them at home.

Alan and William, were hurrying to the beach, attracting everyone to glance at them. Alan said,"Do you dare to play in the tides during typhoon?" He didn't know he would be remorseful soon and what it meant when William said yes. The younger brother, William who thought himself was very brave, agreed with his elder brother.

Not long after, they reached the beach. Only a few people still dared to sit there and enjoyed their drinks. William suggested, "Let's race! Let's see who can arrive that reef faster!" They did not notice about the change of environment. When they considered it was still safe, they did not spot an enormous wave, or a "micro-tsunami", was approaching the beach and terrified all the people except them. No one has enough time to warn them. They swam and swam, and at last William reached the reef faster than Alan. "Yay ! I won !" shrieked William. He probably did not know that these were the last words in his life. Alan shouted desperately. William was stunned when he saw a water wall in front of him. At this moment, Alan could see nothing but blue water. Soon, he was curled up by a huge wave and pushed to the beach. He was shocked when he saw nothing but sand on the beach. The trees and the iron gates got washing off.

Alan went mad and psycho to find William. He jumped into the quick-flowing water and tried to swim towards where William were. Just he reached out to grab what he thought was William, he realized to his horror that it was not William but just a black plastic bag. William was nowhere to be seen. Another big wave came and everything went black because Alan had lost his consciousness.

Alan woke up and there was a stranger besides him. He knew that the stranger saved his life. "Thanks", he said with pale and straight face, trying not to show anyone his grief, with all his might. He saw his mother running over to him with tears which were falling down from her cheeks. He could imagine his mother jumping out of her skin when she heard the bad news. Apologetic and regretful, his tears stole down to the sand, drop by drop. He knew that William had probably drowned.

  1. 謝利米,

I like sadness story and the sentence " He could imagine his mother jumping out of her skin when she heard the bad news." is so good that I want to read "n times".
